ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL
The Rock in Japan Festival is an annual three-day rock festival held during early August in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan organized by Rockin'on. YUI have performed every year since 2005.

Following last year's performance at the Sound of Forest stage, YUI had taken a year off to recharge. Walking onstage with her band mates, YUI said "Everyone, I'm back!", and with her acoustic guitar in hand, kicked off the concert with "Laugh Away". And though last year YUI surprised us with an Inoue Yousui cover, the second song of the say was "Amegari no Yozora ni" (In the Night Sky After the Rain)! (Incidentally, before the final song, "Sea", she added one more, Kaori Kawamura's "Zoo"). Changing to her electric guitar, YUI's genuine singing voice filled the sky. With only her gentle, familiar voice and an occasional "Yaa!" of encouragement, YUI created a good atmosphere. "Rolling Star", her new single, called "Again" has a heavy rock sound, but still YUI's voice, the dynamics of the subtle melody makes it unique. (Some form of praise with a phrase I'm not familiar with. It combines "Power of Shoulder" with "breath of fresh air" and the "the good feeling of a being solid and rooted in the ground"), a new generation, and at the same time something universal. "Throughout six consecutive years, I got a chance to perform in ROCK IN JAPAN! and the weather always great, even today's weather is great. Though in a short time, let's have a blast!~"… Yeah, SOUND OF FOREST was estabilished from 2005 and for the next 6 consecutive years, there’s somebody who always sound off her voice in SOUND OF FOREST, YUI.
At a glance when we watch the performance, before the show starts, FOREST was filled with many people. With a long dress blown by the wind [Ah, it feels so good!] even though it’s hot, please cooperate with us!] YUI said that and soon the first song starts “GLORIA”
The sound of clapping hands and shouting everywhere, continued with another clapping hands. The pleasant voice and song go through every place softly, the sound of acoustic guitar with a mild wind from the jungle are mixed up together, spreading out to every corner of Hitachinaka.
“CHE.R.RY” and “SUMMER SONG” as pop genre, heartfelt ballad “to Mother” words by words sung slowly. It seems now the forest fairy are protecting YUI existence. Although there’s a bit problem with the equipment but without any worries [it seems there's a bit problem...(looking to the audience) ah, there's a child, is he/she okay? so cute~ (waving hand)] with all of her soul she enjoying the contact with the audience. [Part 2] with the sound and jazz master in YUI hands, starts with “es.car” rock ‘n’ roll mode starts and continue with “Rolling star” also “Tonight” heating the atmosphere in FOREST!
For the last, again with the acoustic guitar “Good-bye days” played. With YUI recognizeable voice, along with emotional atmosphere… it’s ended. After 2 years and 3 months, the album “HOLIDAYS IN THE SUN” which has just released, shows a great quality of songs, in this album [the songs] we can find a very good attitude and strong act.

This year’s performance by YUI at the SOUND OF FOREST is really her 7th time!
Since the stage was created back in ROCK IN JAPAN 2005, she holds the record as the longest continuous performer. For music lovers, YUI’s act at SOUND OF FOREST is absolutely a summer tradition, as the summer heat peaks, this refreshing breeze starts blowing at 14:35.
First, the just the four person well-known backing band, e.u.Band, takes the stage. Now, on this day, sitting in for drummer MaiMai, is the Swedish-born, Chris-chan, which looks like their summer festival lineup. As the four of them begin playing, the sound of YUI’s voice, auto-tuned, flows out , and a feeling of anticipation fills the concert grounds to near-bursting.
Then a huge welcoming cheer starts growing, YUI is on stage! Taking off the sunglasses she wore onstage, while powerfully strumming her acoustic guitar, her carefree singing soars up over the music.
At the opening MC, a slightly shy-looking YUI says, “Thank you very much for so many of you coming out” And, as would be expected, the grounds in front of her were completely blanketed with nothing but people, people, people. All the way up to the forest behind the stage, people wanting just to listen to YUI’s singing voice covered the area.
The set list today contains new songs as well as important songs that highlight the various turning points in her career.
During the show, “Today is like, perfect weather, isn’t it.”, she said while looking up into the sky, “now, while keeping Tohoku in our thoughts”, they played a cover of “Tsubasa wo Kudasai”
And then, changing her acoustic for an electric guitar, tidal wave of Rock Mode! The racing sound of the band, and at the center her strong vocals compete with thrilling results, and all of a sudden, the climax of the show passed, and it was over.
Everyone who came to SOUND OF FOREST were mesmerized and exhausted as YUI’s seventh performance there finished, and, absolutely bright and cheerful, she put her sunglasses back on, gave a deep bow and left the stage.
Sound problems
According to blog reports and to what could be seen in WOWOW's broadcast, there were several issues with the in-ear monitors wich lead to a problem with chris syncronization when playing YOU.
